Here you can find links to the files, foldable templates, graphic organizers, etc. that my classes used when I first came to NC to teach. Looking back it is so wild to see how far I’ve come by learning SO much from my students, fellow teachers, and personal experience. The resources listed as “double” are done so you can print 2/page front & back and they’ll fit nicely into your Interactive Notebook! If you prefer the whole sheet/side, simply print odd numbered pages. 🙂

Love your materials!!! Two questions – what font do you use? Its great. And is there a way to access the instruction sheets that your students use at lab stations?
Hi there!
I use a pretty steady cache of fonts including “KG Strawberry Limeade”, “Please Write Me a Song”, “Throw My Hands In the Air” and “Pea Squeaker”. They’re a few of my favorites. As far as instruction sheets – I usually post the materials we use daily (I need to be better about loading things to this page monthly — I’ll do it ASAP).
Hope this helps!
Hello again Mrs. Barton! Could I get a copy of your data tracker? I am trying to create data trackers and need some examples.
HI! I love your website and how you have your class set up! I am a high school teacher near Asheville NC! What exactly is a boom bag?
Hey there!
BoomBag is a an awesome review tool for anything from basic vocabulary words to complex, open ended questions. Each week my students make vocabulary cards, the word and picture goes on the front, the definition on the back. These cards are used for BoomBag.
Here’s the link to the game instructions:
http://sciencewithmsbarton.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/boom-bag-directions.pdf
(for clarification purposes, the player reading the card will hide it behind the bag to ensure the player guessing cannot see it)
You could use it as a review by having an open ended question on one side of the card with the expected response/answer on the other side. You could show a visual image on one side and have a word on the other for ESL/LEP students. The possibilities are endless!
Hope this helps!
Mrs. Barton,
I would like to say that your website is AWESOME! Your resources are great. I hope your students value YOU as their TEACHER!
I love your resources.
Thanks!
I love this website specially the activities. I ready use the first activity with my chemistry class of physical properties and changes and they love it. Thank you. Can you create more for Biology.
Thanks! I am happy to hear it! We typically cover life science topics later on in the year, but I’ll look through some of my old material and see what I can find. Did you have a particular area of biology in mind?
Love, Love, Love your blog!!! I am using some of your ideas with my “less motivated” high school chem students. I was looking at the Periodic Table Scavenger Hunt and wondered how you set this up in your classroom? How do you keep the kids from copying answers rather than completing the task? Thanks in advance!
Thanks for your kind words! I have the cards posted around the room/taped to the walls. The students cannot copy the answers because they’ve been mixed up in the cards. For example, the answer for #1 is not on clue card 1, the answer for #1 could be found on clue card # 17. Also, I keep the learning support station at my desk so students may come and ask for an answer to a clue they’re really stuck on (while leaving their paper/pencil at their desk), I’d show them the answer, then they’d return to completing the scavenger hunt. Hope that helps! 🙂
No really. I teach in biology: Ecology, cell , genetic. Evolution, biochemistry , and anatomy & physiology. But I am interesting in activities to prepare different stations like chemistry. Than you very much.
WONDERFUL! Thank you for sharing your ideas and class set up. I was wondering where you got your Common Core Readings? Love the idea of revolving lab stations!
I love your ideas and organization (wow). I’ve been doing notebooking for a few years now and I’m always looking to adapt and improve. I’m curious as to how students keep their vocabulary cards organized? I’ve seen you post that they go into their journals-how, may I ask? I was thinking of using a zip bag with tape to hold cards. I’ve always used a handout with squares for illustrations and definitions, but I like the cards better.
Thanks! I let my students have a choice between 3 options so they keep their cards in a way that suits them.
1) Binder ring (student hole punch corners and keep adding on throughout the year on 1 ring. Some students have opted to buy their own rings and use a separate ring for each quarter).
2) Ziploc bag – again, some students ended up separating the cards for each quarter in different bags.
3) Plain ‘ol rubber band.
If they have portfolios in your class, you can just have them store their cards in the portfolios (to reduce the possibility of being lost).
The cards add a great physical/visual aspect that I think is really beneficial to building vocabulary.
Good luck!
AMAZING! I could sit here all day………………………… and night… and then repeat.
Wow…A colleague just forwarded your site to me and I am impressed. Not sure you are still using it or even available, but I was wondering how I could obtain the lab/centers that addresses physical properties. Thanks and well done!
on your DE- theory of evolution, what video did you use?
Such an awesome educator!!! Thanks for the resources they are keen and neat!!!!! Thank you! Educator
