The Learning Collective

To get the ball rolling, here are a few of my favorite strategies, interactive notebook, and organization approaches… Over time I’ll be adding more and more so be sure to check back!

STRATEGIES

Some of my favorite teaching and review strategies include:

  • Think-Pair-Share
  • Scavenger Hunt
  • Text/Reading Comprehension
  • Almost any PEAK strategy
  • Vocabulary cards
    • Perfect for BoomBag!

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS

I am obsessed with interactive notebooks. In my district, science teachers do not have the luxury of consumable work books or textbooks so interactive notebooks are the BEST way for me and my students to stay organized AND create a record of what we’ve learned. In each notebook I always include:

  • Table of contents ( complete with unit, date, topic/activity and page number)
  • Numbered pages (always a first week of school activity)
  • Unit labels/tabs with major vocabulary and standards
  • Unique foldables and opportunities to add color with a purpose to enhance concept retention.

ORGANIZATION

Some of my favorite organization/easy-breezy tools include:

  • Milk crates OR bookshelves for storing interactive notebooks
  • Color coordinating (a-la The Home Edit) my markers – and no, I do not share my materials with students… they bring their own or use my class supply.
  • Portfolio holders for unit content and word walls
  • Storing my Expo markers upside down
  • and more!
