Teaching through remote/virtual learning brought so many challenges and opportunities for growth. I definitely am glad I had deep knowledge of and experience with our science curriculum to be able to transition a lot of content to our Canvas LMS – however during our Teams/Zoom calls I wanted to be able to still have fun “game” style reviews. *ENTER BLOOKET!* It was yet another way to gamifiy the learning experience! We’ve used the big players like Kahoot, Quizlet Live, Quizizz and some other mini game-based review platforms in the past – but Blooket took the cake during our remote learning and has been a tried and true favorite even since returning in person.
Why do we love playing Blooket? There are so many different game modes your class can play! Battle Royale, Factory and Gold Quest have been steady favorites (although Gold Quest stresses me out a little when I play with my students because they are ruthless and steal all my gold! Ha!) Regardless, it’s an easy, fun, engaging way to review. Sometimes I’ll even offer prizes to my top 3 for each game – like Jolly Ranchers, stickers, random fidget toys or mini animal erasers!
That said, I’m happy to share the Science EOG Prep Blooket that we’ve been using over the last few weeks! It includes 106 questions that cover vocabulary terms/definitions/topics that we’ve covered throughout our 8th science curriculum such as:
- Matter / Properties + Change
- matter, periodic table, properties + changes, law of conservation of mass
- Energy / Conservation + Transfer
- renewable vs. nonrenewable energy
- Earth’s Age + History
- determining Earth’s age
- Evolution + Genetics
- evolution, natural selection, etc.
- Biotechnology
- Molecular Biology
- cell processes for survival such as
- photosynthesis
- cellular respiration
- cell processes for survival such as
- Ecosystems
- abiotic and biotic factors
- relationships and symbiosis in ecosystems
- food webs and food chains
- Pathogens + Disease
- the 4 major pathogens
- epidemics/pandemics and the spread of disease
By now, I hope you’ve had a chance to play Blooket with your class by now, but if you haven’t – now is your chance to explore! Get ready to have fun!
